Would I be able to complete the Godot courses with the current version of Godot? Or do I need to use the same version as in the course? Looking to get started in Feb as a personal goal for myself.
The greater the difference in engine versions, the more likely it is that you’ll encounter differences, and the more numerous/significant those differences will be, but most of the material will still be accurate.
Also, most, if not all, of those problems have already been solved or pointed out a long time ago and posted about in the Q&A, so if you find that what you’re seeing in-engine doesn’t match the lecture content, a quick look through the Q&A should be your first move. It’s one of the reasons we offer that =)
Using a later engine version won’t prevent you from going through the courses, but if you really don’t want to deal with any potential snags until you get your confidence up, there is absolutely no problem with downloading the version used in the course. Godot is a very lightweight engine, and you can have multiple versions at once - a couple minutes and you’re there. The project manager will also indicate what engine version a given project was last edited in, and you’ll receive a helpful warning popup if you try to open an older project in a newer version (so that you don’t migrate accidentally).
Feel free to do whatever feels right for your current level of confidence; there’s no wrong answer.
I’m really glad to hear this! Thank you! Looking forward to working with you Godot really soon! ![]()
