[Game] From Darkness- A Text Adventure

https://fragmentalstew.itch.io/fromdarkness

Quick text adventure about darkness, existence, discovery, perseverance, and other stuff.

I used itch.io because that’s what I’m familiar with.

I used draw.io to make a simple flowchart to map out all the text options and wrote the text into a text document before copy pasting it into the code.

Edit: here’s the a link to the diagram/chart. It’s not pretty, but it worked for my needs. It looks better in draw.io, though.

Hi there

Nice game, loved the depth of the story. It spiked my curiosity when it gave me a sense of not understanding at the start and made me want to go on. The triple ending was a nice touch, although only the first one (the earliest one) was more difficult to find.

I felt like there were few scenes where you could just go ahead and without much choice but the story was interesting enough to compensate. Thanks for sharing.

Good luck in the in the future

Hello

Thanks for playing it, and thanks for the feedback!

Is there any specific scene, you can recall, where you felt forced to go ahead without much choice?

The story is heavily influenced by Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. There is also a subtle reference to Earthbound, and also Beyond Good and Evil.

Hi

I was referring to the scenes where you only had to press a button to go on like: “press H to hook the stalagmite”, “press p to examine pit”, “press c to climb” and such options. I feel like these parts of the story could have been put as a text to the next scenes where the deccission had more impact on the game.

However I don’t have much experience with text based games prior to this course, so maybe it’s better that way.
