Here is my scene plan. It will probably change as I continue, but this is it for now.

After hair particles. I was wondering what the difference between simple and interpolated children was, glad to finally know.
Not quite the color I’m wanting, but I’ll fix that later. I ended up with 8000 hairs and 100 children. I want to see what the particle edit looks like before adding any more.
Worm’s eye view. 18mm
Bird’s eye view. 500mm

@Uglydog777 Thank you
I used cycles with diffuse, glossy and glass shaders to make the iris. I love that deep brown color rabbits have in their eyes.
EDIT:
So turns out when I added the lens the iris was too dark and the whole eye went black. I had to lighten it up, but it still gives the shade that I want.

He looks kind of worried.
There’s the eye with the iris. I wish there was a way to control those child hairs. There isn’t any hair around the eye, but that doesn’t seem to stop them from getting into it.
And with the transparent shaders added. I know in the future I will not remember to select use alpha when trying to duplicate this process so i will write it down. Good to know about the texture coordinate node though when building the set up by hand. I’ve been unwrapping this whole time.
So for curiosity sake I took an image I had that already had a transparent background and gave it a white background to see how the two compared. Turns out the one with the white background (one on the right) came out better looking than the one with the transparent background (one on the left).

Since the pose isn’t symmetrical I had to sculpt by hand.
