First try with textures

Wanted to try to use texture, have only gotten to the end of the bowling section in the course but I’m really happy how it turned out :slight_smile:

Texturing in Blender has been the bane of my existence for years! But, with the course it has gotten easier! You are far ahead of me when I started! Might want to look at the Weekly Challenge, is anything related to houses, which includes furniture! :jack_o_lantern: A good way to show off your builds and participate in the community!

That looks nice. I usually do my texturing in whatever 3D software I’m going to be rendering in, but I always do my UV mapping in blender, as I happen to like the Blender UV Editor.

What other 3D software do you use for rendering, if you don’t mind my asking. I have not ventured beyond Blender and Photoshop.

I have quite a few, but spend most of my time in Poser, Bryce or DAZStudio more than any of the others.

Thank you for the reply and the information. DazStudio is as much a mind boggle to me as Blender use to be!

I don’t happen to have the latest version. I started with DAZStudio when version 2 came out, and then upgraded to DS 3Advanced, which I still use, and then upgraded to DS 4.0 Pro when they first introduced the Genesis characters. I haven’t kept up with the Genesis 2 and 3 characters, so never bothered upgrading the software again, as I had gone back to using Poser primarily. I use Bryce for my outdoor/landscape scenes, mostly because I can’t afford Vue, which is like Bryce on steroids. :wink:

I haven’t not used Poser at this point since I do not do characters or animations…maybe some time in the future. I am looking for something that will enhance Blender but do a better job of texturing without spending thousands of dollars. I don’t mind making an investment but looking for something over the long haul if you know what I mean.

If you’re looking into getting a better solution for texturing. Look into Substance Painter 2. It uses a layer system like Photoshop and each layer has it’s own channels for bump/normal/diffuse/ect. This way for each layer you’re painting on, you can choose what channels(bump/normal/diffuse/ect) that you’ll be painting on. So far it’s been my go to program for texturing.

I was looking at Substance Painter in the past and looked complicated. I guess I should download the trial and see what it looks like since it has been awhile. Any suggestions on a tutorial?

I know several people in one of the 3D communities I belong to who use Substance Painter, and like it. So far I’ve stuck with Photoshop for texturing because, as Margaine mentioned, Substance Painter seemed a bit complicated. Maybe it’s time I downloaded it as well, and gave it a try. :wink:

I would suggest you watch the fundamentals video 7 through 11 in that playlist so you understand how the texturing process works in it and then when you’re ready to export textures for blender, watch video the fundamentals video 17 for exporting textures.

Other note : Make sure when you’re starting your project to set the template to pbr specular glossiness so you’re making the proper maps for blender. You’ll set that option when you’re first importing your mesh into substance painter 2.
