Do I keep the rights to my projects?

I was wondering if uploading games to game bucket put them into the public domain, or in the creative commons? Theoretically speaking, could I make money off of my games? Not that I expect to.

I would read the agreements and/or waivers they have you accept. I have not used it so I do not know but to sign away rights to your original works there has to be an agreement. It pays to read those when using services like those before you see someone else publish something you did and find out it was ok.

In the case of GameBucket.io, it is a service that was provided when the course first started, as a means for students to host their games, those that are built for the web.

After 30 days your game is removed. I think there may have been some consideration for offering this as a paid service once upon a time, but after Brice moved on to other things, whilst he still fires up the engines when it goes down every now and then, I don’t think there are currently any long term plans with regards to it specifically. It would obviously be quite nice to have a reliable GameDev.tv platform specifically for this in the future.

As an interim solution for those wanting to avoid those issues Itch.io has been recommended, you would need to check the specific details for that service.

With regards to generating income, you could again look at Itch.io, GameJolt and the main “stores” such as Google Play / Apples App Store etc.

Games are only live for 30 days on gamebucket.io. The original intent of the service was to give students a way to show off examples of their builds from the Unity course, especially the earlier projects which are relatively small. As you get to the end of the 2D game sections you will have more fleshed out games which you can upload to Google Play or the Apple Store instead of using GameBucket.
