Diary of a Furry Head!

So I read the heading for the new module ‘Furry Heads’ the mid boggles lol.

Anyway Im carrying on my diary entries , as I have done for the previous modules,
Diary of an Animated Lamp
and
Diary of Modular Assets

In this vein , I present to you Mr Wriggly, I was envisioning a kind of cobra type animal,
but I ended up with this lol

Metaball families ‘seem’ pretty straight forward to understand, at least initially with the basic Mr Wiggly lol
Lets see if I still think so in a few days time lol

Okay , so I’ve started sculpting the head.
It doesn’t look much like the reference image , but as the lecturer said
treat it as a caricature , not an exact copy . Good job really lol
Nose and ears need working on

Good start, just keep adjusting it.

been working on the eyes for a few hours, made them , scrapped thewm remade them a few times.
Ive been trying to bring the eyelids up a bit but not liking what I got. So Ill probably leave them for now and work on the next part of the face and comeback to the eyes again later .

good progress… Look at a few more references to get it right. Heads are hard…

Ears vary a lot so stick to one reference ear.

Isn’t every thing about human that varies a lot?

Yes but ears are squiggly!

So maybe that was why it was so difficult for me to mode/sculpt ears last time as I used multiple references? I was sure that did help me

Very probably!
I still prefer the block modelling way to make a head, as done in the 2.7 course. You can set all the shape first and if wanted then tweak with sculpting. Thar way you have reference images front and side and get a good foundation. I am surprised at this starting with a blob new sculpting fashion.
Somewhere there is even an add on that makes ears!

Ah! Another reason to look at 2.7 course (I already enrolled!)

Oh, wow. Thanks for the link!

I’m not sure what version of blender is being used in the 3D modelling course I’m doing.
I know it looks a lot different from the 2.92 I’m currently using.
I think the main issue I have Mitch sculpted ear , it that the lobe is twice as far down as it’s supposed to be . But I can’t seem to be able to push it up

Perhaps take it to edit mode and grab the verts you want down?
