Diary of a fantasy castle

Moving on from the previous challenges, the thought of drawing ‘The fantasy castle’ was daunting.
Yesterday evening, I started with the quickly sketched thumbnails, non of which floated my boat, so I left them overnight.

This afternoon I took a second look at my thumbnails as well as some reference drawings and got an idea in mind which I sketched out.

Using this sketch , I made a larger scale drawing , changing bits as new ideas were spawned.

It’s at this point I wish I had a graphics tablet and could add layers when I want to progress the drawing, maybe one day lol

:crossed_fingers: for the progress! You can make it :exclamation:

Digital in some ways is more convenient, but on the others - it distract you a bit from what you are actually learning. So don’t worry too much about it (and if you can’t stop it - gather some pocket money for used wacom tablet, or new xp pen or huion - entry level models are not that expensive and can get you a long way)

Finished off the castle, as Grant said , they look better from far away as opposed to close up lol.
I really need to work on the cross hatch shading technique.
Was using a GB pencil , which started off sharp , but wore down really quickly lol
I know at the start of the videos we were told plain paper and an HB pencil ‘will do’
But is it worth getting a collection of pencils ?

Anyway , here is my castle , please hold at least at arms length ha ha ha

I found a 2H pencil at home. It draws much lighter for a first sketch. And the point doesn’t wear out that quickly. Using the HB for the end result. But small details are difficult with the HB.
