generated looks good but makes it look like a wallpaper

The object coordinates gave the best fit for me. Kinda makes it look like it’s been cut out of one piece of wood.

I used Generated Mapping with Flat projection

It took me a really really long time to figure out why my rendering blender render cycle had a black object in it instead of the texture. I thought the lights where already turned on because I saw light marks on the panels of the checkered board, but as it turns out the lighting was turned off. I reviewed the video on image as a texture about 4 times till i accidentally turned on the lights on the outliner .

I used UV coordinates and Flat projection. Then adjusted the X and Y Offset.

Generated w flat projection

I wanted something shiny. I actually liked the way it looked with the generated cube coordinates, so I stuck witt that. I also turned down the specular lighting on the board itself to differentiate the squares from the edge.

Here is my wooden surrounding. I can’t wait to begin using different maps to achieve more realism, meanwhile this is it :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi,

I went with Generated coordinates and Flat projection. I also turned on the “Mirror Y” in “Image Mapping” to have those knots in the wood.

Here it is:

But I cheated a little

Uncheated version

I didn’t like the white areas that repeat themselves (circled in red) so I changed the image file a little using The GIMP to darken the corresponding area.

If anyone want to have the modified image here it is:
Brazilian_Rosewood-modified.zip (2.1 MB)
It is a .Tiff file like the original so I had to transfer it as a .zip. (Because of that forum upload’s specs)
Keep in mind that I am no pro GIMP user, someone may do it better than me !

Cheers !

Hello all! Here is my chessboard wood-surround  I went with Flat projection & Generated Coordinate, but I bumped up the Size on all axis to 3! It seemed to give the “made of one hunk of wood” feel. Also, I couldn’t help but go back into the checkerboard materials & play with specularity & reflectivity

i’m not quite happy with my camera angle, but i had to make a compromise.
because when i tried another angle with the whole board, the camera cut away corners from the board in a far distance.

I got wood on my chess board :+1:
