Hi together,
I follow the course Blender Character Creator now for the third time, its a wonderful course!
Now I am creating my own character (a female human) and got a problem at the baking. My Computer is quite strong but still it crashes when I bake the normals. This never happened before and it was usually very fast. I cant think of something that I made this time else than before. Any idea what could cause the crashs?
Another question: In the Tutorial you are talking about the Ray Distance. If my figure doesnt have any of this “differences in the layers” what should I choose there? Just keep it at 0m?
Thanks!
Kind regards,
Björn
Crashes mostly of the Blender memory consumption. I see you have a lot of vertices/faces in use.
Maybe you want to do it better than with the Orc. Adding more details and now you hit the ceiling …?
- Did you check apply scaling etc.
Ray distance is need to tweak the maps if things didn’t work out a previous time. The results need to be nice purple maps. Not green yellow red …
About the Ray Distance: So that means I should try firstly with 0m and if thats fine, I dont need to measure anything?
I would be surprised if my computer cant handle it. Got a i7-9700 CPU and 16gb RAM, as well as GeForce RTX 2060 Super… I baked before with similar amount of faces…
Yes or you want to sharpen the outcome … more details, bumpiness.
Hmm, but still. Somewhere lies the maximum.
Also at my configuration, the vonoroi material node crashes a lot.
Save regularly!! Stop Start Blender so now and then …?
I remeshed now and tried again with the HP version at 1.6 million faces. Still Blender crashs, it firstly loads for like 5 minutes then it just closes. My orc had 2.4 million faces when I baked and it was in under 10 seconds.
When I google that issue, I see people talking about wrong UV-unmapping, but cant find any details. Any idea here that could couse the crash?
No idea it seems odd. However, if there is some suggestion of UV problems causing it how about just altering the UVs to create slightly different seams. Or smaller islands?
I tried that. doesnt change anything… I even changed now just to try the hp model to 500k faces, still the same issue. Cant be about the hardware, something is happening that forces Blender itself to stop working… probably something very stupid hidden…
Well there is go back several saves and try from different start points. Or append the model into a fresh file and see if it works.
If this is an issue still please provide the blend file
