If you bought lifetime membership from a Kickstarter and can’t get into the private lounge, let us know.
I don’t remember which “pledge” I backed but it had 4 courses. Is there a way to upgrade? ^^
Not at the moment I’m afraid, we’re only selling lifetime memberships with Kickstarters… but there may be one of them brewing before long. Watch this space
Hi Mr. Ben I am lifetime member and I can’tell access to the private lounge
Can you confirm which Kickstarter you backed to become a lifetime member, ideally the email used? We can then get you verified and added. @Lucy_Becker would you mind handling this?
This has now been done, thanks
hi ben, I’m considdering if I can scrape enough together for a lifetime membership for the kickstarter ( luckily it last to next month aswell )
big question, do you ever planning on approaching 2d game development with either unity or unreal, and if so which of the engines would you recommend?
The Unity course already covers a great deal of 2D game development, so that may be what you’re looking for.
Might be, I feel so stupid for first seeing this 12 euro courses now when I literally don’t have a dime.
but my interest is in 2D (2.5D) platforming, maybe with progression / rpg elements
Unity would be the obvious choice for me seeing I have previous C# knowledge but then again.
I just kinda want to dive into the best tool rather than cut corners.
(edit) I originally picked Unreal due to the cost difference between UE4 and Unity.
and I dunno if I’m getting this wrong but looking at the download page the Unity app seems limited for the free version.
I just backed to be one !
Hi there, that would be great. Yes we plan more 2D in Unity and possibly Gamemaker
Thank you!
HI there thanks a lot for your answer, I actually own game-maker
but Honestly I didn’t put it in very high regard, what would the advantage be using Game-Maker above Unity.
also my interest might be more in 2,5D would that be covered aswell or ? <3
The limitations of unity free edition are not bad at all vs the paid editions. Some of the limitations can be worked around with the right scripting. For instance, it says that you can not do a custom splash screen or cutscenes with unity free… and I can tell you for a fact that is incorrect, because I do it all the time. Otherwise, the limitations listed are:
Only 20 user multiplayer
Pro Editor UI Skin
Performance Reporting
Flexible Seat Management
Asset Kits discounts
Unity Certification Courseware
Source Code Access
Premium Support
Now, there is still ways to work around the majority of those. That is because the free edition has these limitations out of the box, not permanently. There are assets on the store to expand on multiplayer, or you could create them yourself. Asset Kits discounts? Well they have sales all the time and if I wanna use a kit in a game I plan to market, I will support them 100%. Unity Certification Courseware? Ben has one he does through Udemy, or you can purchase access through Unity separately.
You see, the point is that the limitations are only there until you find a way around them. The main thing missing unless you spend $125 a month is the source code access… and that is provided for free with Unreal. Though I highly suggest that if someone can not find a work around for the few limitations on their own, don’t play with the source code lol.
Thanks for your reply eric
as it stands right now I’m not seeing any major limits for making the game I can always throw a bit money at them to get rid of the splash I don’t mind supporting them, unlike unreal they don’t seem to take % cuts
but at the stage I’m at right now do I not mind the unity splash screen I’m in no way ashamed of using that engine.
I still like unreal’s concept more as a whole, and the engine itself, but I guess that exept paper 2d
does it not really have the focus on 2d - 2.5D unity does, and seeing Yokalaylee is developed in unity and that’s assuming they haven’t fiddled with the engine itself I’m more than happy to dive into it, didn’t get pretty much all unreal courses and unity courses offered for nothing xD
the one big thing I see as a thing that would make me upgrade to unity later on is the “Performance reporting” I assume that scans the code and tells you exactly where the code is halting which allows you to optimize your game loops.
multiplayer I don’t care much for as of now but yeah I just thought the downsides would had been alot worse I remember the previous version of unity free was practically useless you couldn’t port to anything and was very limited in everything.
Hi @ben, I really want to get back to you on this one
GameMaker is discontinueing their free 1x versions and going into 2.0
Should I make sure to buy myself a copy of 2.0 or what are your plans regarding this, I’d appreciate a reply seeing I’d need to know if I need to put 100 usd aside for a license.
No GameMaker plans I’m afraid
May be a bit premature but I backed the RPG course as a lifetime member.
Thanks for letting me know, I’ll assume the 2D focused course will be in unity then and thereby not spend my money on a new GameMaker license
another question, just like there is a blendercourse for 3d Assets, do I kinda assume you will be making a course for 2D assets, and I think the natural thing would be making it in gimp because it’s free but would it be possible to considder those of us who prefer to work in photoshop aswell ? <3
And @nyczducky I backed as a lifetime member aswell, we need to patiently wait to all the kickstarter mails go trough to get our rewards though <3
Haha I know.
Been going through the Unity VR course since I have an Oculus but I feel I’d need to get a better handle on Unity. Waiting for the codes so I can start on the Unity certification course and the Blender course so I can be ready for the RPG course.
