Arctic Delivery

I was taking a look at the VFX tutorial about creating a snowfall effect and I thought it might be interesting to make some kind of arctic/winter themed package delivery type game.

One idea I’m tossing around is that the player would fly with similar mechanics developed in this section, but instead of avoiding obstacles, the ship would drop giant snowballs onto some burning objects below (maybe a village, trees, single building, etc.).

Core:

  • A player can only lose the level by crashing from errant flying or from running out of fuel.
  • The ship contains a limited amount of fuel and must return to the launch pad in order to resupply fuel before running completely dry.
  • The ship can only carry a limited number of snow balls.
  • Carrying more snowballs at a time burns fuel faster.
  • There is a time limit for putting out fires but not all fires have to be extinguished.
  • Points or stars are awarded for fires extinguished + time remaining.

I like the idea of added VFX to create a different environment, as well as the added mechanic of having to drop something on a target. Gives it a little extra spice.
