This is the Blender Collaboration 2026, week 23 challenge. Don’t be afraid to join, a lot of us are beginners. This is all to practice, have fun, learn, and get together.
The rules are simple. 1 subject, 1 entry, 1 week.
You create whatever object or scene or whatever you can think of that has something to do with the subject. It can be as simple or complicated as you want, all entries are welcome!
Post your picture here in this thread. At the end of the week, we start to vote. And if you are the winner, you may choose the next subject and win a unique badge.
Funny thing happened. While I was finishing this project, the electricity disappeared for a short time, which caused my PC to restart. The Blender file got corrupted, and somehow all save files linked to it also disappeared. I have never experienced anything like that before. After two days work all that is left is this test render, which is 2x lower in quality.
So this is an entry:
The helmet took most of the time. I guess I need to learn better topology.
I wish I will finish it in time
….
I updated with some colors and volumetric * some cute fishies
Thank you.
I actually have version control for my Unreal projects, which I can figure out to use with blender, just never thought that I would need it for that. I just can’t understand how that accident nuked all my project backup saves. That doesn’t really make sense.
I never tried git for a blender project. There is a thought.
I usually make incremental changes, so if a file is corrupted (crash while writing). There is an addon for blender for incremental saves. Silly that this is not installed by default (or maybe it is now).
Still sucks that this happened. Can’t recall when this happened the last time.
We @BlenderCollab have a few days to vote. You can vote fast but also think slowly about design, colors, technique, difficulty, subject, realism, etc. Choose consciously and not on your entry.
The new subject week 24 “Caricatures” has already started. The winner of this week’s “Submerged” challenge may select a subject for next week 25 and win a badge.
The concept of Blender is to link to external data, such as assets or materials. You can place them in one large Blender file, but by default, that is not the case.
If the main project file also loads Blender files by default and that part gets corrupted, it is possible that a whole series of projects will become corrupted.
I have been using Linux (Ubuntu) for years, and I have also often experienced strange behavior, particularly in the area of disk management, such as linked folders (projects). Or moving (reorganizing) folders.
To be honest, I used to create many versions. But now I have more confidence. Less need for old objects that don’t do what I want or need, and therefore less clutter.
What I do a lot, however, is create a backup collection folder. That is where the base models of the project I am working on are stored.
I usually do something similar, but I’ve gotten lazier over time.
Now I remember seeing a youtuber promoting something like an online asset library for blender. I’ll probably look into it now after this.
Normally you can have your own asset library.
Just mark an object, material, … as an asset and set in your preferences the folder in which you store your project or asset files.
But in the latest version those assets (just Blender files) can be accessed on other servers too.
The render looks awesome! I’m sorry you lost your work. I certainly should implement an incremental autosave as mentioned by others, but I do save incrementally a lot using CTRL+ALT+S. This will incrementally save the file by appending a new number to the end of the the filename. Not as safe as an autosave, but it has saved my butt (pun intended).
@Srl1 , congratulations on your exciting deep-sea adventure. Action paced with a beautiful composition.
Ali_Alwayel - Personally, I am very charmed by the pose and the composition. The chosen camera angle gives you the feeling of floating on the sea. The video enhances that feeling even more. It is a strong composition.
gallmerci - A touch of mystique thanks to the sword. I think the colorful coral is a good idea, as it complements the fish. However, to enhance the mystical feel, I had expected something like a water nymph or a mermaid.
Note: I don’t want to offend anyone. I try to write down positive ideas and visions in my simple use of the English language. I am also sometimes more inspired by a particular subject or solution. I’m also learning from you!
