This is the Blender Collaboration 2025, week 41 challenge. Don’t be afraid to join, a lot of us are beginners. This is all to practice, have fun, learn, and get together.
This week’s subject is “Pirates”.
“Pirates” - Everything related to the life of a Pirate …
The rules are simple. 1 subject, 1 entry, 1 week.
You create whatever object or scene or whatever you can think of that has something to do with the subject. It can be as simple or complicated as you want, all entries are welcome!
Post your picture here in this thread. At the end of the week, we start to vote. And if you are the winner, you may choose the next subject and win a unique badge.
As @Megane_Wang already mentioned, some things are technical incorrect.
I think because of working from memory, instead of working from an example.
The hinges are not placed left or right, but on top for example..
I’m still working on my entry. This week I created multiple assets which I’m going to use this evening to create my scene. I already sketched some ideas during my lunch break
Messing around with render passes and the compositor
I feel it’s still missing something so will take another look at it next evening and try to finish up before the deadline (If I don’t make it then this will do ^^)
With this entry I experimented a lot which led to many interesting learning opportunities. I feel that I gained a better understanding of the compositor, subdev modeling and I used the grease pencil for the first time which was interesting, I drew the spiderweb to save time but drawing in 3D space takes getting used to.
I had a lot of fun and look forward to more experiments
Details! The cannon balls are too big to go in the end of the barrel!
On a boat, that sways about in the sea, you can’t stack cannonballs like that! Also looks like 6 on the base row, so only 3 can be placed stably on top anyway.
If those barrels have gunpowder in them, erm no! LOL.
OK idea! Pirates are on land in a house! Solve some issues.
Even do my skills with traditional media are not that great, carrying around a small sketch book and mechanical pencil helps me to “capture” my ideas. You never know when inspiration strikes.
If painting is something you love doing then do try to pick it up again you will not regret it
Really great posts. I think so far, there have only been cool interpretations of the topic. Very strong. I’m having a really hard time keeping up with the quality. Here’s my contribution to the topic. I hope you like it a bit. I’m looking forward to the other entries and upcoming topics. I thought the topic was very cool.
It’s a nice image, though I have the impression that it looks a bit “flattened”. It could be due to lighting or distances, or needing something to give the impression of image depth. Did you have the opportunity to try that?
Thank you so much for your feedback👌Yes, you’re right. I could perhaps just make the black areas of the background image darker to create depth. But I personally think adding more elements behind the treasure chest would be too much for the small scene. Next time, though, I’ll definitely make sure to give the background as much depth as possible
When you check, note that there’s probably no need to do too much. Maybe just adding some of the same pebbles “behind”, leaving some room for them, and playing with light orientation or placement would be enough. If you are using an image for a background, moving it away a “realistic” distance, playing with sizing, and avoiding your lights’ reflection on it usually helps too
I tried to give the scene a bit more depth. I think it helped a lot, but the image doesn’t offer enough quality, so I had to blur the background to keep the quality from being too bad
We @BlenderCollab have a few days to vote. You can vote fast but also think slowly about design, colors, technique, difficulty, subject, realism, etc. Choose consciously and not on your entry.
The new subject week 42“Autumn (Trees/Leaves)” has already started. The winner of this week’s “Pirates” challenge may select a subject for next week 43 and win a badge.
@Wolfguardian , congratulations on your winning entry. It’s an atmospheric scene with lots of detail. The lighting is well-balanced. And the camera height gives the feeling of a small, tight space.
etigue - The textures turned out exceptionally well. I think the background could be improved. A few simple plants might have helped. The difference between the 3D coffin texture and the background bitmap is too great.
Srl1 - Nice graphic style, more like a painting or something, the sea gives that feeling. Perhaps the project was too complex for a week, because the scene is packed with detail. You could also take a look at the colors, because you wouldn’t expect that on a pirate ship.
gallmerci - It’s a stylishly designed scene. You can clearly see what you intended. I think if you made the walls, floor out of stone, it would enhance the fortress feel. Enhance by adding a small pirate ship on the sea. The visual (object) details would fit better.
Note: I don’t want to offend anyone. I try to write down positive ideas and visions in my simple use of the English language. I am also sometimes more inspired by a particular subject or solution. I’m also learning from you!
